Around 90% of people will develop back or neck pain during their lifetime. Many have long-standing or recurrent spinal pains. It is the largest single reason for long-term sickness absence from work. Therefore at Kingston Physio it is one of the most common complaints that we successfully treat.
Back and neck pains can be caused suddenly by a specific injury such as lifting a load awkwardly or it may come on gradually.
At Kingston Physio, we offer the very best treatment for sports injuries and rehabilitation. Our physiotherapists work with amateurs and professionals in the sporting environment to diagnose, treat and prevent injury. Our lists of clients have included: runners, footballers, golfers, rugby players, cricketers, musicians and professional performers.
We are happy to offer Pilates classes that include equipment and mat work exercises.
Pilates is a controlled exercise performed in conjunction with deep breathing that aims to train the whole body and mind, improving posture and "body awareness" regardless of your current physical condition. It also improves your core strength and muscle tone, flattens your stomach and improves your general flexibility.
Our massage therapists offer a wide variety of massages including sports massage. This helps increase flexibility, increase muscle tone and therefore reduce the risk of injury.
Other benefits of massage include:
Acupuncture is one of the oldest recorded forms of medicine, having been used in China for over 3,000 years! There are several theories as to how the effects are produced - research has shown that acupuncture stimulates the brain to produce endorphins (natural pain relieving chemicals.) These assist the body to heal itself and gain pain relief. There is now increasing scientific evidence to support the effects of acupuncture.
Many problems such as painful knees or a bad back can be caused by biomechanical problems.
At Kingston Physio, we can offer video analysis and biomechanical assessments. This involves assessing your alignment in standing, walking and running. This not only allows static examination but dynamic and functional assessments.
The Kingston Physio Golf Fitness and Injury Clinic provides a number of specialist services for all golfers to treat and prevent injury. We can also improve your golfing game through specific exercises.
As golf involves repetitive one-sided actions a lot of uneven stresses are placed on the body. As most golfers practise a lot as well as playing, they are putting continued stresses onto the body.
What can our assessment do for your workplace?
At Kingston Physio, we provide treatments and advice for women who may have suffered muscle or joint problems during pregnancy or after the birth. These issues can develop from loose ligaments caused by the presence of the relaxin hormone, poor posture during the pregnancy and weakness of the stomach and pelvic floor muscles.
After a fracture, you are normally put in plaster for up to six weeks to allow the bone to heal. When you remove the plaster your bone may be healed, but your muscles and ligaments will be weakened from lack of use. You also may have swelling and stiffness. This then leads to pains and continued disability.
Have you suffered a problem that affects your joints, bones, muscles or nerves? Perhaps you have a sports or work-related injury, or maybe you have a back or neck problem. Kingston Physiotherapy is on hand to attend to all these issues and more!
